We jumped double clear in the 90cm hack class and we won the class! We  just did one round as she hasn't been out a lot so we want to keep it fun and easy for her.

Riding on the beach

Posted on 21 August 2016 | 3 Comments

We took the horses to Karioitahi Beach this morning. It was sunny but really cold. We couldn't go at low tide so it wasn't as much fun as usual. The sand was too mushy to canter in and with only a narrow bit of beach to ride on the motorbikes and cars got closer than we liked. Still, Cloudy and Judge liked getting out of the arena.

Papatoetoe again

It's Queen's Birthday Weekend and we spent Sunday at Day One of the Vet Associates Winter Showjumping Series at Papatoetoe Pony Club. Patrick and Zoe came out to watch me ride. Cloudy was a super star for me after two months off. We jumped two super clears for second place in the 90cm to 1m two-phase class and FIRST place in the 1m to 1.10 speed class against some very zippy ponies. So proud of my Cloudy.

Saturday lesson

Ride on the beach

Posted on 20 March 2016 | 1 Comments

Mum and I took Canooge and Cloudy for a long ride on the beach this afternoon. We had a great time. It was especially funny when I fell off Cloudy in really deep water. My best boots and Kep helmet went right under and got saturated. I was freezing cold the whole way home. I think that might have been our best beach ride ever!

Autumn training

Posted on 13 March 2016 | 2 Comments

It was a nice morning to do some more training with John. Cloudy and I flew over this 117cm triple bar. We also did a really short wonky line from the wall to the plank. He was perfect for me today.

The Premier Arena at HoY

Posted on 5 March 2016 | 3 Comments

Cloudy was a super star for me today. We placed 4th in a really competitive 1.05m championship showjumping class. All the place getters were invited into the Premier Arena at 4.55pm for a presentation in front of the grandstand followed by a lap of honour around the arena while "Stand up for the Champion" played. It was a really exciting atmosphere. Cloudy was pretty excited to show off his wide green sash with tassels. Plus I met his old owner, Rebecca, who introduced herself after hearing his name called out over the loudspeakers..

Lesson on Cloudy

This morning we had another great show jumping lesson with John. Cloudy was a very good boy once again. Then I shampooed him and cleaned our gear.

Happy new year!

Posted on 11 January 2016 | 3 Comments

This was the best ride ever at our favourite black sand beach. The tide was right, the weather was perfect, there was only one motorbike and none of the dogs chased Cloudy! We even found a log for Cloudy and Canooge to jump over. Perfect ponies!

Merry Christmas!

Posted on 25 December 2015 | 2 Comments

Cloudy and Canooge got some good presents this year. They each got a personalised show rug, horse treats and carrots. Now they're having a two week rest after a busy year.

Christmas Classic

Posted on 18 December 2015 | 4 Comments

We had the best two days show jumping at the Fiber Fresh Taupo Christmas Classic Jumping Championships. Mum and I slept in the truck for two nights. Dad had to stay in Auckland to work. On Wednesday Mum and I had a great big hack out on Canooge and Cloudy across the cross-country course. Cloudy jumped amazingly for me. We were placed in every class, and each class had 80 or 90 competitors. My last round yesterday was at about 5.40pm and straight after there was a massive torrrential rain-lightning-and-thunder storm. Cloudy and I trotted straight to his stable and we quickly settled him in.

Saturday beach ride

Posted on 31 October 2015 | 1 Comments

The beach was busy today. There were hang-gliders, 4WD vehicles, dogs and children jumping out of the sand dunes. Cloudy got a couple of frights but apart from that everything went well. Canooge was much braver than her first time. She didn't mind getting her feet wet.

Cloudy is a star!

Posted on 11 October 2015 | 4 Comments

Cloudy was such a show jumping star for me at Woodhill Sands this weekend. We jumped two 80cm rounds, two 90cm rounds and one 95cm. All of them were double clear! Cloudy definitely earned his carrots today. What a good boy!

Beach ride

Posted on 1 October 2015 | 2 Comments

Mum and me and Canooge and Cloudy had the best beach ride ever on a west coast black sand beach called Karioitahi Beach.

Posted on 27 September 2015 | 2 Comments

Mum and I took Canooge and Cloudy on a trek across farmland at Waitawa Regional Park. There were lots of steep trails and even a wooden bridge the horses had to clomp across. We went with Alanna and Brayden; and Brayden let me ride his beautiful new 17.3hh horse called Jay. It was so much fun! Our two were very sweaty at the end.

Cloudy and I had lots of fun again at another Papatoetoe Pony Club show jumping training day. We went clear in the 90cm and had one rail in the jump-off of the one-metre class. He is such a good boy. Sarah and cousin Zoe came out to watch us jump too! Below are some photos taken by the very clever Sarah Caldwell.

Cloudy and I had another lesson with John. Cantering with no stirrups really wore me out! At the end we did some courses including the wall with a pole on it and the liverpools. We also did a combination with four elements (including just a bounce between jump two and jump three). Cloudy was a very good boy.

Lesson with Cloudy

Posted on 10 July 2015 | 3 Comments

Today Cloudy and I had another lesson with John Cottle. It was lots of fun. It was one of the coldest days of the year but Cloudy was very sweaty by the time we finished. He is such a handsome boy.

Our two new jumpers!

Posted on 30 May 2015 | 4 Comments

I'm so lucky to have a very cool new show jumping pony. His name is Cloudy. He is eight years old and 148cm and his face looks quite a lot like Mindy's. Cloudy isn't the only jumper to join our team this month. Mum's grey mare has arrived too. She is almost 16hh. Her name is Canooge or Noogee but we usually call her Nooge.

Horse of the Year Show!

Posted on 19 March 2015 | 6 Comments

I am so proud of Leo. He did a beautiful workout for me and we won the Medium Show Pony of the Year title. We were very lucky because we were up against lots of beautiful ponies and riders. We even had to take our saddles off so the judges could see the ponies "naked". As well as a sash and gorgeous purple garland, we won The Carey Family trophy and a Horse of the Year winners rug for Leo. He will look so good in it. Navy blue really suits him. We did our lap of honour while "Stand Up for the Champion" played. Leo got a bit over-excited when we passed too close to the loud speaker. Such an exciting day. After we rugged and fed the ponies, Mum, Dad and I went to to Hugo Chang's for dumplings. Thanks to Cherie for the help with our workout and the very glamorous turnout. Leo looked like a star. Also thanks to Mum who gave Leo a midnight feed every night for the last two weeks. Also to Nan who watched me ride once again and supplied the miniature Pinky Bars!

Awesome beach ride

Posted on 15 March 2015 | 2 Comments

We took Mindy, Leo and Dusty for an enormous ride along Ocean Beach. Lots of cantering and there were a couple of watering holes which were heaps of fun too. Our horses are still very suspicious about "the sea that moves" but they were mostly very brave and cool.

Zoe visits Franklin show

Posted on 21 February 2015 | 3 Comments

My sweet little cousin Zoe came to see us compete at Franklin A & P Show today. There's a photo of her below when she saw a ladybird in the grass. So cute! Leo was a good boy today. He was awarded Champion Pony and Reserve Champion Paced & Mannered Pony. We woke up at 4.45am and didn't get home until about 6pm. It was a long day for all of us. Also thanks to Deb for the plaits and the quarter-marks and making Leo look even more gorgeous before my classes.

Fun day show jumping

Posted on 7 February 2015 | 4 Comments

Had a great day show jumping at Woodhill Sands. Mindy and I were lucky to be tagging along while Mum and Dusty were at a Waitemata Show Jumping weekend. Mindy made it seem so easy. She is not just a great show hunter pony but I think she really likes show jumping too. She just powered over all the jumps and we were first equal in the 75cm.

Dude! Where's my groom?

Posted on 25 January 2015 | 3 Comments

We spent the last two nights in the truck at Rotorua. On Friday night we all ate the macaroni cheese I made at home. It was delicious! Mindy and I did show hunter. She jumped amazingly for me again. Mum calls this photo "Where is my groom when I need him?" I had to climb right into the saddle bay to put my saddle away. Awkward!

Leo is such a STAR ...

Posted on 11 January 2015 | 5 Comments

I was so lucky today. Leo was awarded the Pryde's Easifeed NZ National Supreme Champion Show Pony (128 - 138cm) title at the New Zealand National Horse & Pony Show at Hawke's Bay showgrounds. He did a foot perfect workout for me and he was such a good boy. I am so happy with him. We received a sash, a rug, a garland, Pryde's Easifeed NZ feed, a medal and the Dora Nelson Salver, which I will serve Leo's dinner on tonight! He is such a special boy. I love him so much. A big thanks to Cherie for the beautiful turnout and help with the workout, and also to Tinesha for all the lessons.

Day at the beach

Posted on 27 December 2014 | 4 Comments

We took Mindy, Leo and Dusty to Ocean Beach. Thanks again to the very kind people at NZPH. We had heaps of fun and cantered right to the end of the beach. It was a such a beautiful day. We are all exhausted.

Waitemata show hunter

Posted on 7 December 2014 | 2 Comments

It was a great day today at Woodhill Sands. Mum was doing some show jumping rounds at the other end of the grounds so I had to do my two show hunter rounds on my own. Mindy was such a good girl. We won both our classes! (Mum and Dusty got a double clear round and third prize.) Then afterwards I spent some time with sweet baby Coco. I taught her how to bow and to follow me around the paddock!  That is us in the second photograph below.

Cambridge show

Posted on 29 November 2014 | 2 Comments

Leo was a sweet boy for me again today. He didn't like the icy rain that came through just before our classes started and I had to settle him down after that. But he was back to his best once we went into the ring. He is such a professional. Below is a photograph of us having a team talk between classes. He seems to be listening to me!

Windy show

Posted on 15 November 2014 | 3 Comments

It was so windy at Waipukurau today that the show jumping jumps in all three arenas blew over and the show jumping had to be cancelled, Branches were falling off trees and tents were blown away. Luckily the show hunter arena was fairly sheltered. Mindy jumped amazingly for me again today. And once again my Nan came to watch my classes. She also fed me sweets and biscuits!

Posted on 9 November 2014 | 5 Comments

Leo didn't put a hoof wrong for me all day. Once again it was over four hours altogether. Such a good boy in the show ring. I had hoped to jump Mindy in show hunter today but the classes clashed. Thanks again to Cherie for the beautiful plaiting and Tinesha for the turnout and riding tips. Doesn't he look a picture?

Leo is a super star

Posted on 24 October 2014 | 6 Comments

Leo was a rock star for me today, such a good boy. He was awarded Supreme Champion pony at Hawke's Bay Show. I was so proud of him because there were so many beautiful ponies and good riders competing today. We were very lucky that the judges liked him as much as we do. A lot of people helped us get fit for the show ring this season. Thanks to Deb for all the lessons, advice and schooling. Thanks to Paris for all her years of hard work with Leo. Thanks to Sonny for the good care he takes of our boy. And in Hawke's Bay, thanks to Tinesha for the lessons and Cherie for the plaiting and show preparation.

Show hunter at Hawke's Bay

Nan came to watch Mindy and me jump our two show hunter rounds. I was so pleased to have her there. Mindy jumped faultlessly for me once again. Below is a photo showing us doing our second lap of honour. Also below is a shot of Mindy, Leo and Dusty that Mum just took. We have got six acres here but they all crowd as close together as they can. Good night, sweet ponies. (And horse.)

Three days at Gisborne

Posted on 18 October 2014 | 3 Comments

We spent all of Thursday, Friday and most of today at Poverty Bay A&P Show. Mindy jumped perfectly for me in the indoor arena. (The photo below shows us at the end of a round. Mindy has her tongue out again!) And Leo didn't put a foot wrong in all our showing classes. Today he was awarded Supreme Champion Pony of the show and at the end we cantered around the oval with the other champions. One of the horses got really excited but Leo was a good boy and I managed to ride one-handed and wave to the crowd while we cantered past. Very exciting!

Ocean Beach

Posted on 10 October 2014 | 6 Comments

We had an amazing beach ride out at Ocean Beach which has five-kilometres of white sand. Mindy and Dusty were both very suspicious of the strong waves. Leo was the sensible one which is not normally how things roll. He was a very brave boy. We are very lucky that the people at NZPH allowed us to access the beach from their amazing property. Thank you!

School holidays: Hawke's Bay

Posted on 9 October 2014 | 4 Comments

This afternoon I had a lesson on Mindy and then on Leo. They were both perfect for me. Below are photographs of them plus one of Dusty. Mum says she looks more like a china ornament of a horse than an actual horse.

Our three bay mares

Posted on 30 September 2014 | 3 Comments

After Mum's lesson, John Cottle gave me and Mindy a lesson. First, he put me on the lunge so I could practise my position and then we jumped some rounds. Below is a photograph of us going over the liverpool. Next I rode little Coco. Then we shampooed her and let our three beautiful bay mares snack on grass in the sunshine.

Mindy won a rug!

Posted on 28 September 2014 | 4 Comments

Wow! Mindy jumped amazingly for me again today. We scored the most points in the two championship accumulator rounds over the weekend and so we won the award for the Category A Show Hunter Championship for 2014. Mindy and I were presented with a beautiful black-and-white Woodhill Sands rosette and an amazing Equissage rug. Thank you to Equissage for their very kind sponsorship of this event. Mindy is going to love wearing her new black rug. A shout out to Pro-Coat shampoo too which keeps Mindy looking (and smelling) great for every outing.

Start of the season!

Posted on 27 September 2014 | 3 Comments

Mindy jumped two great 70cm show hunter rounds for me at Woodhill Sands today. I think she knows she gets carrots afterwards. Back at the truck we gave her hay but she was still extremely interested in my vanilla cupcake. Sometimes I think she thinks she's a human not a pony!

Show jumping at Woodhill

Posted on 22 September 2014 | 4 Comments

Mindy did two amazing rounds for me today. We jumped two double clears which meant we jumped 32 fences in total. We were lucky to come first (equal) in both our classes (60cm and 65cm). Dusty was really good for Mum, too. They were third in the 95cm. There were about three hailstorms and we got soaked but we still managed to have fun. I also chatted to Vicki, Amanda, Kelly and Heather Wilson who I hadn't seen since the Showtym camp.

Jumping at Woodhill Sands

Posted on 24 August 2014 | 4 Comments

Mindy jumped so well for me for me today at Waitemata Show Hunter's event at Woodhill. We were first in one class and third in the other. Mum and Dusty had a really good day show jumping here too. They won one class and were second in the other. Mindy and Dusty got carrots for all their hard work. Then on the way home we took a selfie! (I don't know why Mindy is poking out her tongue in the photo below but I think it's very funny.)

Winter beach ride

Posted on 17 July 2014 | 2 Comments

Me, Paris, TC, Mum and Deb went on a 3-hour, 10-km beach walk at Whitford with Mindy, Dusty and Taffy. Cantering in the sea was so much fun! We had yummy cinnamon buns and chocolate milk for lunch. (PHOTO: left to right: Mum and Dusty; me and Mindy; Paris and Taffy.)

Posted on 22 June 2014 | 2 Comments

Today was my second time showjumping. Mindy was a super star again. We got two clear rounds and a clear jump-off. It was a really long day. We were at Papatoetoe Pony Club from sunrise (for my classes) and we were still there at sunset (after Mum's classes).

My first time showjumping

Posted on 1 June 2014 | 4 Comments

Mindy was a super star for me today. We did three clear rounds and one jump off. This is a photo of us going clear in the 75cm round. Showjumping is a lot of fun. I really liked cutting that corner into the last jump! (Mum and Dusty jumped later on in the day. They got four faults and eight faults in their two rounds.)

Papatoetoe dressage

Posted on 25 May 2014 | 3 Comments

Another great day at Papatoetoe Pony Club. Leo was very well behaved in his tests. We got one second prize and then we were awarded 4th prize overall for the Level 0 Three-Day series which Mum said was pretty good going since we were in Cambodia on the first day of the series! (Me and mum, that is, not Leo.)

Random photos

Posted on 22 May 2014 | 3 Comments

We found these photos from Horse of the Year on Dad's phone. Mum said that Mindy must have told me a really funny joke in that top one. I really like that photo. The second photo shows me, Mindy, Nan and Mum waiting for the presentation of the Category A Show Hunter title class. .

Dressage on Sunday

Posted on 11 May 2014 | 5 Comments

After we made banana pikelets for Mum for Mother's Day, we went to Papatoetoe Pony Club for a dressage day. Leo and I did three tests, and he went perfectly for me. We were lucky to be placed second in two classes. It was only the second time I had tried dressage. (The other time was a year ago on Mindy.) The comments on the judges' sheets were very useful and will help me improve for next time. Two of the judges wrote that Leo and I are a "lovely combination". We got a score of 9 for our medium walk and when Leo started neighing at his friends during a movement the judge wrote: "Very well done - especially since pony was a bit distracted". I can't wait for the next dressage day. It was so much fun.

My golden boy

Posted on 19 April 2014 | 5 Comments

This morning Leo looked at me as if to say: "I'm having my after-breakfast snooze and I'm so comfortable. Do I REALLY have to get up and go to a show?" But he soon looked excited once we led him to the truck. Leo was so good for me all day today at Auckland's Easter Show. He is the perfect pony. What a dude!

Horse of the Year

Posted on 22 March 2014 | 5 Comments

Mindy was a super star for me again. Nan and Poppa came out to see me ride in Hawke's Bay. We had a great day shopping at HoY on Friday and watching some of the show-jumping (the Saba Sam in particular). Mindy was so good today. She jumped amazingly in her round and also in the call back. We almost lost our ribbon when we went on lap of honour with the other prize winners! Mindy really deserved her carrots and apples after.

Kumeu show

Posted on 8 March 2014 | 5 Comments

Mindy was a super star jumping machine for me today. She flew over the gates and brushes with perfect striding. We won our 138cm class and then went back into the ring to be judged alongside winners of the three other classes. Mindy was Reserve Champion! So proud of her for her jumping and her beautiful conformation.

Swimming at Opotiki

Posted on 15 February 2014 | 4 Comments

We came to Opotiki so Mum and Dusty could compete in the Show Hunter classes. Mindy just came along for the trip and we had two amazing swims in the river. She actually, literally, was swimming while I rode her because the water was so deep. Best fun ever!

Waikato show hunter

Posted on 9 February 2014 | 4 Comments

We spent the weekend at the National Equestrian Centre in Taupo. On the first day we competed in the pouring rain but today it was fine. Mindy was very good for me in the jumping ring. We got scores in the 80s and 90s. But she was also a bit naughty because we found out that she escaped from her yard in the night. Someone caught her for us and put her back in. She was probably out looking for grass. She's always hungry. From the way she acts you would think we starve her but we definitely don't. Dusty was very good for Mum this weekend too.

Beach ride

Posted on 6 February 2014 | 4 Comments

Mum and Deb took me, Paris, TC, Dusty, Mindy, Taffy and Ernie on a really long beach ride. It was such great fun. Mindy loves the sea. She splashed with her front feet until we were both saturated. She is such a water baby!

Super Mindy

Posted on 1 February 2014 | 2 Comments

Mindy jumped really well again for me today. She is such a honey. After the presentation (shown in photo below) I untacked her, brushed her, unpicked her plaits, put her new purple show rug on and then let Mindy eat some well-deserved grass while we watched Mum and Dusty jump in a one-metre class. Go Mum!

Hot in Whangarei

Posted on 18 January 2014 | 6 Comments

We spent last night in the truck at Whangarei showgrounds. Mindy and Dusty jumped really well today at Northland Show Hunter's competition. I did two 70cm rounds and mum did three 90cm rounds. It was really hot and after the jumping we took the ponies to the cross-country water jump to cool off. They loved it. Yesterday they were pawing the water and almost sitting down with us on their backs!

Sweet baby Coco

Posted on 15 January 2014 | 3 Comments

Sweet little Coco came cantering over to see me today and every time I stepped back to take her photo she came towards me so the photos are not very good. I told her what her new show name is and I think she really liked it.

Farm ride

Posted on 14 January 2014 | 2 Comments

Today we all went for an awesome farm ride over hills, through streams and across ridges. The ponies loved it!

Show Hunter Waitemata

Posted on 11 January 2014 | 2 Comments

Dad was our groom at Woodhill Sands today while me and Mindy, and Mum and Dusty, did our show hunter classes. He did a really good job.

Last ride of 2013

Posted on 31 December 2013 | 2 Comments

On the last day of the year me and Mindy and Mum and Dusty went for a ride down to the Winemaker's Cottage. Mindy and Dusty really liked getting out of the arena and seeing the vineyards and the Pacific Ocean.

Mindy and me!

Posted on 8 December 2013 | 3 Comments

Mindy was so good for me today in the Working Hunter classes at Whangarei Show. She soared effortlessly over the jumps. We overnighted for the fifth time in our truck. We were parked right beside the ring so between classes Mindy and I would come back to the truck. The judges had a half-hour lunch-break plus there was some time between classes at one point so I sat in a chair, holding Mindy, reading Catching Fire again, and watching Mum and Dusty do their Show Hunter rounds. When I was reading my book whenever Mindy saw Dusty she would neigh so when she neighed I would look up and see if they were in the ring. She was a perfect early warning system! It was another great day and Mum got a second place!

First jumping, then cake

Posted on 1 December 2013 | 2 Comments

Mindy jumped like a professional for me at Woodhill Sands. After my classes I had yummy banana cake. I am so proud of Mum and Dusty. They were fourth in the 90cm open class. Well done, them!

Great weekend jumping

Posted on 24 November 2013 | 4 Comments

Mindy is amazing. She jumped so well for me today and yesterday. Click on "Shows" above to see what rosettes we won. Mum and Dusty had a great event too with four clear 90cm rounds in the hack ring. Yaaay them! (Mum says any show not requiring medical attention or X-rays is a good show for her.) Dad was a groom for us both today. He did a really good job and was in charge of Dusty's studs.

Lesson on Leo

Posted on 17 November 2013 | 1 Comments

Today we rested Mindy after all her great jumping yesterday and I had a lesson on Leo. He was a good boy for me.

Waihi show

Posted on 16 November 2013 | 2 Comments

Mindy jumped amazingly for me again. Here is a photo of our family at Waihi A & P Show. Spot the odd one out .... It's Dad. Me, Mum, Mindy and Dusty are all girls.

And the crowd went wild!

Posted on 9 November 2013 | 5 Comments

Today was the best show ever. Not only did my two ponies go amazingly well for me (you can read about them under the "Shows" tab above) but nine people came to Clevedon especially to cheer us on. Sarah and Patrick brought Zoe (the cutest cousin ever) out to have a little sit on Mindy. It was her first pony ride and Mum thinks Zoe is definitely going to be a rider when she gets older. Also four of my school friends watched me and Mindy jump. Luca, Bella, Jess and Holly (and Tors and Lou) cheered so loudly after my first round I had to ask them to tone it down as I rode past. (Just joking though.) Thanks to all my supporters today. I rode almost non-stop from 8am until 4pm then afterwards Paris and I went to the sideshows. (Also, Mum says to mention the fantastic whitebait fritters which the grown-ups raved about but they sound terrible to me. Paris and I had mini doughnuts instead. Yummy.)

Hawke's Bay A & P Show

Posted on 24 October 2013 | 3 Comments

A big truck noisily tipped its load of wood off right beside the show-hunter ring. Mindy didn't really like it but she still did really well. My Nan came to watch us and gave out mini Pinky bars to me after each round. I will definitely invite her to be the ribbon collector again! (Below is a photograph of Mum and Dusty jumping yesterday.)

Grumpy faces

Posted on 15 October 2013 | 2 Comments

Mum took this photo of Mindy and Dusty with identical I'm-sure-my-dinner-was-supposed-to-be-served-hours-ago expressions on their faces.

Riding Dusty

Posted on 12 October 2013 | 2 Comments

I warmed up Dusty for Mum in the arena, and then Mum worked her in the back paddock. I love Dusty. She goes so nicely for me.

Lesson with Amy

Posted on 8 October 2013 | 1 Comments

Mum and I had a lesson today with Amy Roydhouse. It was really good, and Mindy and Dusty were both very well behaved.

Matamata show

Posted on 5 October 2013 | 5 Comments

Another fun day at Matamata. It was my first time doing Round-the-Ring jumping and Working Hunter. So proud of Mindy. She went perfectly and we were awarded Reserve Champion Working Pony Hunter 138cm.

Jumping clinic

Posted on 29 September 2013 | 1 Comments

Today me and Mindy, and Mum and Dusty, attended a Jill Ullrich jumping clinic. It was amazing. We were both in the same class which was for people who had not done one of Jill's clinics before. Mindy and Dusty both went really, really well.

Show hunter at Pukahu

Posted on 15 September 2013 | 2 Comments

Mum took this photo of the show hunter ribbons Mindy and I won at Pukahu. Mindy was so good for me that we got a ribbon in every class. On Saturday we got two firsts and a second. She was a bit tired on Sunday but we still got one second, one third and one fifth. Afterwards we were told that we had the most points of all the Category A competitors. I am so proud of Mindy. Then we had a really long drive back to Auckland in the truck. Mindy didn't get into her stable until 9pm.

A sunny Hawke's Bay day

Posted on 7 September 2013 | 1 Comments

Today Mum and I went for a ride down the road then we did some jumping in the arena. We must have made them work hard because afterwards Dusty and Mindy had a lie down in the sunshine.

Where's my saddle?

Posted on 31 August 2013 | 2 Comments

After some schooling the the arena Paris and I decided to take off the ponies' saddles and ride bareback. We were cantering and it was so much fun.

Riding practice

Posted on 29 August 2013 | 2 Comments

We went to the pony club down the road to give us all an outing. I really wanted to ride Mindy today because I hadn't ridden her for a little while. She is such a nice pony. We jumped a few jumps and then we had to leave because Mum said she was freezing.

HB Pony Camp

Posted on 16 July 2013 | 3 Comments

Today was the last day of our four-day pony camp in Hawkes Bay. Deb, Paris, Matisse, Taffy and Ernie drove all the way down from Auckland to be with Mum, me, Mindy and Dusty. There was lots of rain but we all had lots of fun in the fantastic new arena.

Pointways Pony Club: Day Two

Posted on 9 June 2013 | 4 Comments

It was raining all morning but Mindy jumped superbly in the second day of the pony club's winter show hunter series. We were very lucky to get two first placings and one third. The judge scored us 88, 85 and 80 which were our top scores ever. Mindy is such a good girl. She does exactly what I ask.

(RESULTS: 1st in 40cm, 1st in 50cm, 3rd in 60cm)

Pointways show hunter

Posted on 26 May 2013 | 2 Comments

I am so proud of Mindy. We went to day one of the Pointways pony club show hunter series and she didn't put a hoof wrong. We got a first and a third which was a red rosette, a yellow rosette and a voucher for two people to use the pony club grounds. For one round our score was 80 which was my best ever score so far. Our other two scores were 73 and 68. (RESULTS: 1st in 40cm, 3rd in 60cm)

Thanks to ACK Photography for the two super action shots above.

My pony likes Twisties

Posted on 12 May 2013 | 1 Comments

Today we discovered that Mindy likes Twisties. She also ate three crackers. She doesn' like mandarins, though. We did two dressage tests at Papatoetoe Pony Club. It was my first time doing dressage. Mindy was a very good girl and Deb called the tests for me. We got fourth in one of the tests.

First jumping competition

Posted on 14 April 2013 | 1 Comments

Today I rode Mindy at my first ever jumping event. It was run by Waitemata Show Hunter and held at Woodhill Sands. I am so proud of Mindy. We got 2nd in the 50cm and also got a really good score in the 60cm. That is us with our blue ribbon below.

I love Mindy

Posted on 9 April 2013 | 2 Comments

I wasn't going to jump Mindy today but I couldn't resist. Mum put the jumps up higher than ever and we did a round of six jumps at 70cm - 75cm. Mindy flew over them. It was lots of fun.

Jumping lesson

Posted on 7 April 2013 | 2 Comments

This weekend Paris and I had two jumping lessons. Today we were taught by Olympic showjumper John Cottle. It was lots of fun and I learnt a lot. Mindy got very sweaty.

Jumping Mindy

Posted on 24 March 2013 | 1 Comments

I had heaps of fun jumping Mindy today. She is awesome, and she does the best ever flying changes. That is us below. Go Mindy!

Pony trek

Posted on 23 March 2013 | 1 Comments

We went on a pony trek through Totara Park. I rode Mindy, Paris rode Stella and Matisse rode Bell. It was lots of fun.

Little Mindy Lou

Posted on 17 March 2013 | 1 Comments

Today we picked up Little Mindy Lou from Horse of the Year and brought her back to Auckland with us in our truck. She is my new jumping pony. I hope she likes it here.

My 10th birhday

Posted on 7 March 2013 | 1 Comments

Today I turned ten. This is my gorgeous new pony Coco. She is only two years old but she is very beautiful. She still has fuzzy fur on her back just like a duckling. So cute.

Riding in the arena

Posted on 6 March 2013 | 1 Comments

Here we are planning our work-outs. Paris is on Leo and I am on Holly.

Morrinsville show

Posted on 2 March 2013 | 1 Comments

It was a great day today. Holly went really well and it was my last time in the First Ridden section (except for HoY). Thanks to Paris and Deb for the great turnout. We had a lot of fun at the sideshows afterwards.

Hello pretty pony

Posted on 28 February 2013 | 2 Comments

Today I met the prettiest little pony. Her name is Coco. She is just a baby.

Franklin show

Posted on 16 February 2013 | 2 Comments

Holly was a very good girl today. Look how pretty she is. My school friends Luca and Clover came to see me ride, and Lesley Warwick took some great photographs of me and Holly.

Horsing around!

Posted on 10 February 2013 | 2 Comments

Today we went riding at the beach and hooned around for two hours. It was the best day ever. Thanks, Deb! Go Leo, Go Holly!

Warkworth show

Posted on 26 January 2013 | 1 Comments

It was a great day at Warkworth today. Holly went perfectly for me although it was our very first show together. She is so cute! Thank you to Deb for all the lessons and Paris for schooling Holly. Colleen came to watch me ride too. After our classes Holly was very thirsty. She drank all the water I could give her. (The kind people at Warkworth show took the photo below. That is Mum and Deb in the background!)

CHB Show

Posted on 10 November 2012 | 4 Comments

I am so proud of Bell. She didn't put a hoof wrong all day. Nan came to watch us at our last show in Hawke's Bay. When we got home Mum let me take Bell out of the truck on my own. Then I let her have a nice pick of grass which she really deserved after all her hard work.

Riding home from school

Posted on 31 October 2012 | 3 Comments

Today Mum brought Bell to school at 3 o'clock so I could ride her home.

Flaxmere Pony Club

Posted on 24 October 2012 | 2 Comments

Today I joined Flaxmere Pony Club and went to my first rally. It's the same pony club Mum belonged to many years ago. It was Bell's first time at pony club too and I think she loved it as much as I did.

Gisborne show

Posted on 13 October 2012 | 3 Comments

Today Bell was amazing and she settled in to the indoor arena nicely. It was a great, fun show. It was our first time sleeping in our truck and it was lots of fun. After dinner the first night, I went to check on Bell and ended up bringing eight teenaged girls back to the truck! Also, one of Katie McVean's trucks was parked right in front of our truck so I got her autograph and a photo with her! I also saw some of the Dunstan horses up close!

Bell in the yard

Posted on 10 October 2012 | 1 Comments

It was so hot and sunny today that we gave Bell some naked time in her yard.

Pony camp

Posted on 3 October 2012 | 2 Comments

Yesterday Bell and I were lucky enough to go to pony camp at Deb's place with eight other riders. This is Matisse and me doubling on Mia.

Count the rugs!

Posted on 4 September 2012 | 0 Comments

Bell was clipped at the weekend so she looks very beautiful but we need to make sure she doesn't get cold. Bell is ready for bed in the photo below. She is wearing one sheet, three woollen blankets, a waterproof cover and three neck rugs - that's eight covers in total. Ten, if you count her rub vest and tail bag!

Justin Beiber hair!

Posted on 19 August 2012 | 3 Comments

Bell doesn't look very impressed that I gave her a Justin Beiber forelock. Oh well, never mind. And happy birthday to Bell and all horses for the 1st August. She's nine now - the same age as me.

Canvas of Bell

Posted on 22 July 2012 | 1 Comments

Mum is getting me a canvas of Bell for my wall. This is what it will look like. Isn't she beautiful?

Bareback riding

Posted on 10 July 2012 | 1 Comments

I rode bareback today. Bell is such a honey. Her trot is so nice and smooth.

Hairy Horse Show

Posted on 8 July 2012 | 1 Comments

Today we went to the Maraekakaho Hairy Horse Show. It was awesome. I went in the section for eight and nine year olds. Bell didn't put a hoof wrong all morning. She was perfect. We won six ribbons:
1st Lead in Hand
2nd Best Presented
2nd Best Trotting
2nd Best Combination
3rd Best Pony Club Mount
8th Hairiest Horse
It was funny. The judge said that Bell wasn't hairy at all. In the afternoon Mum and Gran jumped clear rounds in the 90cm and 1-metre classes. (That's them below.)

Photos from HoY

Posted on 25 March 2012 | 1 Comments

Lesley Warwick from Showshots took some great photos of us at Horse of the Year. Bell looks so beautiful!

Mum bought a horse!

Posted on 19 March 2012 | 1 Comments

Mum bought a horse while we were down at HoY. Her name is Granite Ridge or Gran for short. I can't wait to introduce her to Bell. Here is a photo of me and Gran. She's a lot taller than my pony!

Horse of the Year 2012

Posted on 14 March 2012 | 5 Comments

Today Bell was the best girl ever. I could tell the minute we walked in the ring she was going to be great. I was really nervous about my rider work out, but she helped me through that by doing a perfect work out. After, as a treat, I got to watch Katie McVean and Dunstan Daffodil jump!

Bell and her teddy bear together again

Posted on 7 March 2012 | 1 Comments

We finally unpacked the bag that was sent with Bell from the Gold Coast and we found Bell's favourite little teddy bear. She was so pleased to see it at last!

After school ride

Posted on 6 March 2012 | 0 Comments

Bell was a good girl. We practised our work outs.

Sunny Sunday

Posted on 4 March 2012 | 0 Comments

Such a beautiful day for riding. Bell didn't like the sheep hiding behind the hedge beside the arena. Mum says that is fair enough. Below Bell is itching herself as we are saddling her. She even has her hind foot up in the air. If I keep itching for her she gets a funny look on her face with her top lip over her bottom lip. Very cute!

Riding Bell

Posted on 29 February 2012 | 0 Comments

Bell was so nice to ride today. I oiled her hooves and today I took her bridle off all by myself. (Kind of been too short to reach until now.)

Who's a pretty girl?

Posted on 28 February 2012 | 1 Comments

Look at Bell's beautiful eyelashes. She's so pretty! Today Mum realised she'd missed a plait when she took out Bell's mane plaits after Helensville show. Oops! Bring back Ben!

Helensville show

Posted on 25 February 2012 | 1 Comments

Had a great day at Helensville. Bell was good, the sideshows were fun and we went to Mexico (restaurant at Britomart) on the way home.

Posted on 24 February 2012 | 0 Comments

Bell was such a darling. I practised both my Horse of the Year workouts. She nailed them on the first go!

All the fun of the fair!

Posted on 18 February 2012 | 1 Comments

Today Bell was the best. She was good the whole time and we met a man who knew her from Queensland. I rode her for seven classes and one of them involved cantering on the circle with all the other riders. We've never done that before. Bell was was glad to get back to her hay at the end though. After I went on a big obstacle course called the Terminator with Mum. I also drove a hot-rod car and went on the vertical bungy.

Posted on 17 February 2012 | 0 Comments

I had a quick lesson today before Ben prepared Bell for the show tomorrow. She was such a good girl for me again.

Riding after school

Posted on 14 February 2012 | 1 Comments

Today Bell was very sweet. I think she knew it is Valentine's Day! I had a great time riding her, and gave her a kiss and a carrot for Valentine's Day.

More riding practice

Posted on 6 February 2012 | 2 Comments

Today I practised keeping my heels down and did some more cantering without stirrups. Then we went to the jumping arena and Mum set up a course of nine poles on the ground and we trotted over them a few times. Then Mum turned two of them into little jumps and Bell loved it. We didn't know that about her! We gave her a carrot for all her hard work.

Show at Paparoa

Posted on 4 February 2012 | 3 Comments

Even though a helicopter landed in the paddock beside us and there were were pleasure horses jumping in the same ring while we were doing our workout, Bell was a very good girl and I loved riding her. She did not put a hoof wrong. I was really proud that she was reserve champion. Below is a photo of me and Bell. I have my "I Heart Bell" tee-shirt on. Also see Bell's plaited tail. Mum had to do the turnout as Ben was at a different show today. I think she did really well.

No stirrups!

Posted on 2 February 2012 | 1 Comments

Today I cantered with no stirrups for the first time! I went on both reins and it was great. Bell has such a lovely smooth canter.

Another lovely show

Posted on 28 January 2012 | 2 Comments

So proud of Bell. She was so good for me today. And my oldest friend Colleen came to watch us and then we went on all the side-shows including the Dodgem cars twice.

Levin show

Posted on 20 January 2012 | 2 Comments

Today I went to Levin show. Bell did so well. She got champion first ridden pony! I think she is the best pony in the world and I am really proud of her. She is such a good girl to ride.

The Nationals

Posted on 12 January 2012 | 0 Comments

Bell was such a good girl for me at the Nationals. Even though it was a long hot day she did everything I asked her to. She is so kind and she has really beautiful manners. We found some shade beside the grandstand and I sat on Nan's handbag to have a rest between classes.

Best stable mates

Posted on 9 January 2012 | 0 Comments

When she first arrived Bell wasn't sure if she liked this stable but she's settled in fine now.

Just hanging out

Posted on 5 January 2012 | 1 Comments

Happy new year! Bell and me hanging out in the shade of the apricot trees. An apricot just fell and hit Bell on the rump!

Alpaca sighting

Posted on 29 December 2011 | 0 Comments

This is Bell seeing the alpacas next door in Hawke's Bay for the very first time. They look like a cross between a sheep (woolly) and a giraffe (long neck). No wonder Bell can't take her eyes off them.

Training in the arena

Posted on 16 December 2011 | 0 Comments

Bell is such a nice pony to ride. She feels just like a rocking horse when she canters. And she looks so beautiful in the brand new mirror beside the arena!

Posted on 14 December 2011 | 0 Comments

Bell is having a lunch-time feed. We think that all her travelling has upset her food routines so we are trying to discover exactly what she likes to eat.

Look, Mum. No hands!

Posted on 6 December 2011 | 1 Comments

Bell is very different from Flossy to ride. Ben says Bell has a lot more buttons and Mum says we need to do lots of practice together.

Welcome Bell!

Posted on 3 December 2011 | 0 Comments

Beautiful Bell arrived last month all the way from Queensland, Australia. She accidentally missed her flight over so spent a week shopping in Sydney before finally touching down in Auckland. We are really pleased to see her at last. And we hope she really likes it here.
1. Welcoming Bell
2. Floss and Bell meeting each other
3. Riley preparing Bell for her road trip from the Gold Coast.

Goodbye, beautiful Floss

Posted on 1 December 2011 | 4 Comments

Tomorrow Floss is going to her new family. I will miss her with all my heart. She taught me how to ride. And everything I know about ponies I learnt from her. She was the best starter pony anyone could have. I love you Flossy.

Lazy day pony

Posted on 10 October 2011 | 0 Comments

We gave Flossy a rest today and let her have some time outside without her covers. And I found a pukeko nest in the back paddock with four eggs in it.

Posted on 9 October 2011 | 5 Comments

I was really proud of Flossy for winning reserve champion pony. I think she did really well because it was only our third First Ridden show together.

Riding over poles

Posted on 28 September 2011 | 1 Comments

Yesterday and today I did some riding over poles on the ground. Mum said it's good for my steering and also good for Flossy to learn to pick up her feet. The bottom photo shows Flossy waiting for her dinner.

Floss meets up with her old friend Legs

Posted on 11 September 2011 | 4 Comments

Floss was a good girl yesterday. I had a lot of fun in the show-ring talking to the other riders. Plus Flossy saw her old stable-mate Legs (aka Eastdale Legacy) and they were both so pleased to meet again. Flossy neighed and neighed when she saw her.

Measuring day

Posted on 8 September 2011 | 1 Comments

Flossy got measured today. Now she is 122cm tall. She has grown 1.5cm since last year. Aw, so cute!

a new pony

Posted on 1 March 2011 | 3 Comments

Mummy says that now I’m seven I can have a pony. She wants to find just the right one so it could take two or even three months. I wish I could have one now.

A Flossie Flossie Christmas

Posted on 25 December 2010 | 2 Comments

Today was a very Flossie day. I got a canvas with a photo of Floss on it plus a set of notecards with her photo on it. She looks just like a fairytale pony. And Barb and family gave me three great photos of Flossie-Pants and me in a nice pink frame. I am very lucky that Lesley has taken so many lovely photos of us. Flossie even gave me four powder-blue pony boots and Mum gave me an I-love-Floss T-shirt with "Deeplake Fascination" on the back. Merry Christmas to Floss! I can't wait to see her and give her a special Christmas carrot.

Flossie was such a good show pony for me again. I fed her hay and an apple after all her hard work. Mum and Dad sneakily gave Floss a ginger kiss which she loved and Alan let her have some fizzy drink. Barb says Floss is a "real foodie". Floss and Diva love each other so much. They neigh to each other from across the show-grounds and really miss each other when they're apart!

Show prep

I went to ride Flossy today. Barb was preparing Diva, another pony, so my mum was looking after me. She was very VERY annoying. Flossy was quite naughty because every time we stopped she would put her head down so she could eat grass. After that Bella and I washed and shampooed Floss. I had to put purple liquid on Flossy's socks to make them whiter.

I brushed Floss all over, her mane, tail and body. Today we did lots of trotting and cantering. We also did some jumping which Floss loves. After one jump we were cantering and Mum yelled out: "Stop, stop," and I almost fell off but didn't.

Whangarei A & P Show

Had a great day at Whangarei. The amazing Floss worked so hard once again. I fed her the pizza crusts left over from lunch. Thanks to Ben for the professional quarter-marks combed onto Flossie's rump. At the truck next door Bella and I patted a little dog called Zorro.

Mum's first time leading!

Today I went to Cambridge A & P Show. Barb led me for three classes and my mum led me in six classes. It was her first time leading me so it was a big experience. When you won a ribbon you got a prize. I got two brushes, two caps, one T-shirt, one sponge, a browband cover (thanks to NZ Racing Wear) and one WHOLE bag of feed. My mum got a ribbon too, which was VERY funny! Below is a photo of Floss being brushed with one of her new brushes. I am wearing one of my new caps too!

Floss was the perfect pony once again. She also made friends with a tiny dog called Ruby. And I was Reserve Champion Rider.

A day in the country

Posted on 13 November 2010 | 6 Comments

Today I went to Clevedon A & P Show. I think Flossy was a very good pony because she came first in best pony! Lots of friends and family came to watch me ride because the show was so close to Auckland.

Riding with my friend

Posted on 7 November 2010 | 10 Comments

Victoria came riding with me. She rode Mindy. (Thank you Bella for lending us your pony!) And I rode Floss. I did lots of trotting and some jumping. I think Flossie might want to be a show-jumper when she grows up! Then Victoria and I swapped ponies and I fell off Mindy going over a jump. :( That is fall number two.

Sleeping beauty

So cute! Look at her little hoof sticking out of the blanket. This is the beautiful Miss Flossie-Pants fast asleep at Waikato show while her stable-mate, Legs, was winning Supreme Champion Pony. A big congratulations to Bella and Legs!

Waikato A & P Show

I went to my fourth show and Barb was leading me for the first time. Barb was really good. At the end I gave Floss lots and lots of food (including hot chips). I was picking up Floss' hay and putting it back in her hay-bag because she was such a good little show pony. She's never put a foot wrong for me in the ring.

At Barb's house I was jumping! I even cantered over one jump! Flossy even likes salt-and-vinegar chips. Is she a pony or is she a piglet?

Hawke's Bay A & P Show

Flossie was amazing at the show today. Best girl ever. I love her so much. And I could not believe that she ate some of my nachoes for lunch. What a strange pony. She loved them!

Serious training

Posted on 15 October 2010 | 1 Comments

I was on Flossy and she was very speedy. She was great on the lunge. We did about ten circles. I practised holding the reins short and pushing her into a trot without kicking her.

Big day out

Posted on 10 October 2010 | 8 Comments

We are all very tired after our big day out at Matamata A & P Show. Floss was such a dream to ride. She really deserved her lunchtime feed afterwards.

Riding with Bella

Posted on 4 October 2010 | 2 Comments

Today I went riding on Floss with my friend Bella who rode Legs. After we brushed the ponies we fed Millie the lamb and talked about our holidays.

Posted on 25 September 2010 | 1 Comments

Today I learnt how to rise to the trot on the correct diagonal. Then we went for a ride along the road and Floss saw her very first cow.

Grooming Floss

Posted on 18 September 2010 | 2 Comments

No riding today. Bella and I brushed Floss and combed her mane and tail. We also gave Millie the lamb her bottle. Here is a photograph of Bella and me getting ready to ride in the show last weekend.

My first show!

Posted on 11 September 2010 | 10 Comments

Floss and I went to Pukahu show in Hawke's Bay and it was tons of fun. I won my first ribbon and had a terrific day. Thanks so much to our fabulous team leader, Claire. And, of course, to Barb.

Cute black lamb!

Posted on 4 September 2010 | 2 Comments

Floss was really good today. She knew exactly when to start trotting. It was like she read my mind. I gave her lots of pats. After I brushed Floss I gave the little black lamb a bottle. So cute! Her name is Millie now.

Shampooed Floss' tail

Posted on 28 August 2010 | 0 Comments

I had a great ride on Floss today. She was very good. We even went over some little jumps. And afterwards I shampooed her tail which was quite dusty.

Trotting practice

Posted on 22 August 2010 | 1 Comments

I did lots of trotting on Floss today. I was trying to get her going just the right speed. Not too fast and not too slow. My legs are a bit sore from all the riding.

Riding fun

Posted on 21 August 2010 | 0 Comments

Today I had a really long ride on Floss. I also rode by myself in the arena. Floss was really great. PS I held the cutest ever black sheep called Sabrina. She is only six days old.

Back in training

Posted on 8 August 2010 | 0 Comments

Floss has been on holiday for a few weeks and I rode her today for the first time in ages. She was great and I practised my trotting and my steering. I brushed her and helped pick out her hooves. It has been really rainy and Floss is wearing seven different blankets today. I counted.

Happy birthday, Floss!

Posted on 1 August 2010 | 1 Comments

Happy birthday to Floss who turned five-years-old today. It was too rainy to ride but I gave her a hug and a carrot. Floss was clipped last week and Barb gave me a container full of her fur to take to school to show the girls tomorrow.

Rising to the trot

Posted on 8 July 2010 | 1 Comments

Today I learnt to rise to the trot. Everyone was so happy. Mummy had been worried that I might have been the only girl at Pukahu show who couldn’t rise. Thanks for all the lessons, Barb.

My first fall

Posted on 19 June 2010 | 0 Comments

Today I fell off Floss for the first time. I did a forward roll over her shoulder. It didn’t hurt much and Floss stopped to wait for me to get back on.

Cute Floss

Posted on 5 June 2010 | 0 Comments

Today Floss neighed when she saw me. It was so cute!

Show pony book

Posted on 16 May 2010 | 0 Comments

Uncle Patrick and Auntie Sarah visited and gave me a fantastic book about show ponies. Mum made Nigella Lawson's cheese scones for afternoon tea.

I LOVE Floss

Posted on 9 May 2010 | 0 Comments

It felt a lot different to actually ride my very own pony. I love Floss

Floss is mine!!

Posted on 1 May 2010 | 4 Comments

I now own Floss! I can’t believe I have my very own pony. Thank you, Mummy. Thank you, Daddy. I can’t wait to tell the girls at school tomorrow.

Floss is awesome

Posted on 27 April 2010 | 0 Comments

I went to ride Floss again. An ‘equine behaviourist’ called Cheski came too to make sure Floss was quiet and kind enough for a learner rider. She made me get on and off Floss a lot of times and she waved a rake around her head and even dropped it but Floss didn’t mind at all.

A vet called Hadyn from Auckland Veterinary Centre checked out Floss and said she was in great health

Floss - first meeting

Posted on 13 April 2010 | 2 Comments

We drove out to Karaka to see a pony. She is a bay called Floss. I rode her. She is gorgeous.  Mummy says we have to have her checked out before we buy her.

I am getting a pony

Posted on 12 April 2010 | 0 Comments

I told one of my school friends I was getting a pony and she didn’t believe me.
